Your family tree is pretty much your nation's royal family, consisting of princes (generals) and princesses (diplomatic agents).
Medieval has lots of agents to utilize for various campaign map shenanigans, and there is also a family tree to manage, which IMO is the most important aspect of the game. Warhammer is much more combat focused and the battles / turns are much faster.
In terms of raw mechanics, there is a world of difference. I've played both Warhammer, Medieval vanilla, and am currently playing Stainless Steel right now. so maybe you are a veteran, in terms of mechanics and gameplay what does Total war medieval 2 differ from warhammer total war?
